Selena Gomez Style

In recent weeks, Selena Gomez has been seen wearing various pieces of our jewelry. We couldn’t more excited about this because she is one of our favorite fashionistas and starlettes. Here is a round up of everything she’s been seen wearing so far:

image

Here, Selena was seen twice in one week wearing the Cigar Band Ring in Gold. It has since become one of our most popular items.

image

Also, Selena wore the Cigar Band Ring again in addition to the Single Knot Cuff and the Skinny Cuff while at a TV appearance in Europe

image

Most recently, Selena was seen in the Nashota Necklace in Antique Brass while at to lunch in LA.

Here in the Nissa Jewelry office every day is filled with creativity, hard work and spontaneity. On top of all this, we pride on staying fresh, clean and presentable all day! Each employee has their own techniques and products to sustain a flawless look all day long, especially in this summer heat! We decided we want to uncover some of our secrets so you can also have a long lasting look whether it be on the beach, in the office or at home!
Nissa is all about ease when it comes to her beauty routine. She is obsessed with the Elle Bella Lash Lounge in Washington, DC for her eyelash extensions. “I rarely have time to put on makeup in the morning, and this treatment gives me full, luscious lashes without mascara.” In comparison to other salons, Elle Bella Lash Lounge provides this service at an affordable price. We’ve all been wondering why Nissa has the longest lashes we have ever seen!
As the summer days get hotter, our skin seems to get dryer. PR and marketing intern, Alexis, loves the Organix Moroccan Oil Body Lotion. “It leaves my skin soft all day without being too oily!” This product gives great results while being a reasonable price. Alexis also adds a drop of the moroccan oil lotion to the ends of her hair to prevent damage and frizziness!
Along with keeping your skin protected and hydrated, it is also important to keep your lips protected in the scorching sun. Design intern, Emily, uses Sugar Rose Tinted Moisturizing Chapstick every day. Not only does this Chapstick have multiple tints, it also contains SPF 15! “This Chapstick acts like a moisturizer and lipstick at the same time. It’s the silkiest and smoothest lip product I’ve ever used,” says Emily.
Office assistant, Emily, swears on the Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray. This product gives hair a beachy look all day. ” I love it because it gives me body without frizz and no crunchy texture,” says Emily. For those who can’t make it to the beach as much as we like, this is a perfect substitute.
Polished nails are the ingredient to a complete look. Here at the office we love chatting about all the new nail polish trends and designs. Specifically, management intern, Kelsey, changes her nail color almost every week with the OPI brand. ” The brand has rich, consistent colors that go on smooth compared to other brands I have tried,” says Kelsey. This summer we are loving the pale, neon and metallic trends.
Last but certainly not least, every girl needs a little something to make their eyes pop! The Lancôme Définicils Mascara makes sure your lashes are long and full without clumps! Design intern, Jessica, uses this mascara every day and everyday her eyes pop. ” I’ve tried so many mascaras and never seemed to find one that provided length and volume without clump, until I have the Lancome mascara,” says Jessica.
Now that you have seen some of what we use to keep our looks together throughout the day, now it’s time for you to tell us some of your favorite beauty products!

With summer just around the corner, we’re all looking for ways to cool down while still being stylish. This is why we are absolutely obsessed with cutouts. They are the easiest way to stay cool and fashionable this summer.
Cutouts are very popular in dresses and tops. Luckily, they are not limited to fabrics. We have incorporated cutouts into some of our new and favorite pieces, like these cuffs, necklaces, and earrings. This trend has made its way into footwear too. We seriously cannot get enough of this summer trend!

Teal has been taking over the runways—and we love that this underrated color is getting some much-needed attention!  Teal in itself is a unique color.  Is it blue?   Is it green?  Maybe a little bit of both.  What we do know for sure is that this vibrant color is a showstopper that is sure to turn heads.

In the Fall 2013 Fashion Weeks, this heavenly hue sauntered down the runways in various formsall of which were fabulous.  Models wore this stunning shade from head to toe—something most of us would shy away from.

image

The teal trend didn’t stop there.  Bold accessories took center stage during Chloe and Narsico Rodriguez’s shows.  And we’re whole-heartedly obsessed with Ellie Saab’s totally teal look (centered below).

image

We couldn’t talk about teal without highlighting how well Oscar de la Renta incorporated the color into his fall line.  We absolutely love how the cobalt complements then green/blue hue—really making it pop.

          image

All of these looks put teal at the top of our minds, and we’re very eager to incorporate the stylish shade into our wardrobes.  Inspired to go grab some teal pieces as well?  Shop by the trend on our website here!

Pretty in Pastels

Recently, we’ve found ourselves taking detours down the Easter candy aisle on our grocery store visits. Yeah, we’re on the hunt for those delicious Reese’s peanut butter eggs (why are the holiday shapes so much better than the normal ones?), but we also love to linger among the pretty pastel packaging of all of the candy.

Spring is the season to bring out the soft and soothing color palette and we are more than ready to welcome the happy hues into our wardrobe. Whether it’s through a pair of pants or an awesome accessory, there isn’t a wrong way to incorporate a pop of pastel into your ensemble.

Sundance Style

image

What we wouldn’t do to be in Park City, Utah right now- fully engulfed in the wonderful world of independent film! The 32nd annual Sundance Film Festival kicked off this past Thursday, January 17th and will conclude on the 27th of this month. Started in 1981, the festival is supported and run by the Sundance Institute, “a nonprofit organization dedicated to the discovery and development of independent artists and audiences”.

Over the ten day period, attendees have the opportunity to screen films preselected for their captivating stories, partake in cinema-centered panels and discussions, and enjoy live music performances from celebrated artists. With so many exciting things to do (in one of the most beautiful backdrops imaginable) it is obvious why more than 45,000 people flocked to the picturesque town for the festival last year.

Naturally, one of our favorite things about Sundance is having the opportunity to observe the cold-weather wardrobes of the thousands of attendees. From celebrities to everyday film fanatics- the festival’s ‘fashion’ is celebrated almost as much as it’s cutting-edge and creative cinema. We were all smiles putting together the ‘Sundance Styles’ below, featuring the outfits we would be bundled up in if we were bouncing around this year’s event. Whether you find yourself in Park City this week or not, we hope the ensembles below inspire you to explore the equally fun and exciting attributes of independent film.

‘First Lady’ Fashions

All eyes will be on the Obama Family today as our country swears in President Barack Obama for his second term- marking the 57th Presidential Inauguration in America’s history.

There is no doubt we’ll see an abundance of decadently detailed gowns and handsomely tailored tuxedos at tonight’s ‘Inaugural Ball’- yet we find ourselves most excited to feast our eyes upon the apparel choice of the always-elegant Michelle Obama. In an effort to provide a platform for our predictions of what she will wear- we did a little digging into past First Lady Inaugural fashions…

image
In 2010, Laura Bush proved simple can be stunning as she radiated in red alongside her husband, George W. Bush. The dress was designed by fellow Texan, Michael Faircloth.

image
Michelle Obama was all about embellishments in 2009, as she sparkled in a stylish one-shoulder gown from Jason Wu.

image
In 1993, Hilary Clinton chose a brilliantly-beaded royal blue dress designed by Sarah Phillips for Ball honoring her husband, Bill.

While each fashion figurehead has their personal opinion of what Michelle Obama would look most-magnificent in, we’ve compiled three looks we’d love to see her sporting…

Marchesa Notte Floor Length Gown, Nissa Jewelry Betsey Earring, Sheepskin Transparent Shoes:

Rebecca Taylor Frayed & Fitted Strapless Gown, Nissa Jewelry Gilda Cuff, Nine West Sheryl:

Catherine Deane Leticia Embroidered Silk Gown, Nissa Jewelry Vivian Earring, Rupert Sanderson High Heel Platform Pumps:

Only time will tell if the red, white and blue ball-gown theme holds up, yet if history tells us anything- the First Lady will be looking fabulously flawless. Cheers to tonight’s Ball and our President’s inauguration!

Trimming the tree… with trinkets!

image

Each holiday has it’s quintessential “icons”- Halloween owns the pumpkin, Easter is all about the colorfully decorated eggs and no Christmas would be complete without a tree to put wonderfully-wrapped presents under. Here at the studio, we are all in agreement that one of the easiest ways to ensure a happy holiday is to start celebrating early. Yep, that’s right- we are the epitome of “those people” who turn on the Christmas tunes before ‘Black Friday’ has begun and can be found discussing holiday party themes before most people have even pondered possible presents for their loved ones. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that our office is glowing with Christmas spirit from wall to wall.. and has been for quite some time now:)

This year, we took it upon ourselves to inject a little ‘Nissa Jewelry’ into our decorations and- after staring at our smile-inducing trinket-trimmed tree for a couple weeks now- we felt compelled to share our awesomely a-typical creation with you! Nissa Jewelry is known for it’s eclectic re-imagining of forgotten vintage pieces and thus, we said ‘so long’ to ordinary ornaments and instead, incorporated aspects of us into the adorning-process. The result? A beautifully charming tree that incorporates the ‘uptown sophistication’ and ‘downtown edge’ that characterizes each of our brilliantly handmade baubles…

image

As you can see from the photos above, we used various styles of gold and silver chain to compliment the classic white lights. To add to the aesthetic appeal while still sticking with the tree’s ‘simplistic’ style, we hung wire hook earrings from it’s branches. The gold dangly pairs provide a bold statement when viewing the icon from afar while the various-sized pearl earrings lay the foundation for a fun- yet delicate- take on the average run-of-the-mill ornament. We didn’t stop there… what tree would be complete without a shining statement up top?

image

Our Angel Wing Necklace provided a perfect starting point for our one-of-a-kind tree topper. We concluded the creative craft by incorporating some leftover chain to detail the angel’s gown and lastly, used a bold jewel for her head! Yeah, a colorful bow would have sufficed but our twenty minutes spent on the above ‘beaut ensured that the tree sincerely stood for the studio’s holiday spirit.

Just as Nissa reinvents vintage treasures in her creation of our jewelry line’s curiously creative collection, we encourage you to put your unique spin on this season’s most iconic decorations… the options are actually endless!

If our a-typical take on ‘trimming the tree’ left you eager to find ways to inject your personality into your home this holiday, check out our “Eclectically Embellished Holiday” Pinterest board. We are hopeful that perusing the pins will not only provide you with the perfect platform for inspiration but will also perpetuate our mission over here at the studio of spreading significant amounts of Christmas cheer:) We wish you the healthiest and happiest of holidays and sincerely can’t wait to see what you craft up!

Recipe: “Cant Mess Up” Mini Scones

Our first ever recipe.. are you excited?! We recently had a small holiday get together within our organization and served the pictured mini scones along with a plethora of other finger foods. In all sincerity, if we had a dollar for every compliment the festive fool-proof treat received, we would be rolling in the ones and therefore- we feel obligated to share the secret behind the sweet with you! Don’t you love ‘rock-star’ looking recipes that are secretly super simple to ‘stir-together’?

Around the holidays we tend to get our ‘bake on’ more frequently then normal and with this trusty recipe in our back pocket, the opportunities for a quick and easy homemade indulgence are endless. We fittingly named them ‘Can’t Mess Up’ because you truly cannot go wrong anywhere in the instructions (but actually, if we can do it- there’s no doubt in our minds you can too) and best of all, it’s among the most simple sweets in our ‘book’ to put your unique touch on! Whats better than being able to personalize a treat specifically to your taste?

That has to be our absolute favorite thing about our mini scones seeing that they provide a perfect addition to any meal of day- get creative with the additives and you’ll see what we mean! From a savory breakfast treat (raisins, dried fruit), a terrific ‘tea time’ sweet (granola, ‘plain’ served with jam and clotted cream) , a mouth-watering supper side (shredded cheese, basil/other spice) to a crave-worthy dessert (chocolate chips, M&Ms)- these scones can support any ingredient your taste buds are crying for!

Grab the following ingredients- which are common staples in most kitchens (another reason to love this recipe right?!)- and let’s get mixing…

Necessary Ingredients
*Makes 16-20 mini scones

  • 1 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon *can omit
  • 6 tablespoons butter (softened/melted)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • “mix-in(s)” of your choosing
*This time, we used cranberries in the dough and then drizzled white chocolate over the scones once they were cooled! Yet, the recipe is great because it allows you to get creative! From our experience, chocolate chips are delicious for a more ‘sweet’ treat and by adding raisons/shredded carrots we created a more ‘breakfast friendly’ scone- you can’t go wrong!

Six Simple Steps:

1.) Preheat oven to 350F.

2.) In medium sized bowl, mix all of your dry ingredients (first four on the list).

3.) Stir in your ‘additive(s)’ of choice.

4.) Melt butter (we microwaved it for around 20 seconds) and work in until mixture is crumbly. You may find it’s easier to use your hands then a utensil to do this:)

5.) Add milk and mix until mixture is thick.

6.) Drop in heaps on greased baking sheet.

  • Another reason to love this recipe: once placed on the sheet, the dough does not spread so feel free to put your scones as close together-without touching- as needed!
  • If you want a more ‘rustic’ looking scone like the “Carrot Cake” featured above, don’t do anything to the dough before putting it on your baking sheet- literally drop and go. For a smoother more ‘shapely’ scone (like our “White Chocolate Cranberry”)- roll dough into a circle, place on sheet, and push down to create semi ‘flat’ top. Want the delicious ‘cookie dough’ look of the “Chocolate Chip” example above? Combine the previous two steps by softly shaping the dough while still allowing it to retain a bit of the ‘organic’ feel!

Bake for 17-20 minutes or until the scones are lightly bronzed on top.

Cool and enjoy… and try not to all of them in one sitting;)

Try a little turquoise this Winter..

There’s no denying that the color turquoise popped up in a plethora of designer runway looks earlier this year- causing quite the fashion frenzy. As blue’s more-modern cousin, the color quickly became a staple for clothing and jewelry and made a name for itself as one of the year’s most followed fashion trends. While designers like Vera Wang and Tory Burch embraced the use of the popular pantone color in some of their most recent collections, many are still under the impression that the hue finds it’s home in the Spring and Summer seasons specifically…

False. Today we are embarking on mission: ‘show how turquoise can be embraced even in the coldest of months’:) Through styling our popular Casablanca Jeweled Necklace for three different cold-weather occasions, we hope that you’re inspired to add a pop of color to your upcoming ensembles by embracing one of the most brilliant shades of blue.

In our opinion it’s always fun (and helpful!) to peruse how fashion icons are styling our pieces to fire up our outfit-putting together endeavors…

The versatility of the necklace- a favorite of Kourtney Kardashian and Giuliana Rancic- can be seen in the variety of necklines that it is featured on above. Quite simply, the raved about bauble can add pizzaz to more than you think- allowing you to be picture-perfect from your sandal-wearing lazy Summer afternoons to your cozy mornings crouched over the fire on the coldest days of December. Not convinced yet? Well, let us show you a few more looks…

  • Outfit one- If you want to stand out at your next holiday party, why not let the conversation piece stand on it’s own? By providing a simple yet intriguing foundation for the accessory- through a leather shift dress (a staple with a twist.. remember our last fashion-centered blog post?!) and a classic pair of black kitten heels- the turquoise will be turning heads as soon as you check your coat!
  • Outfit two- There’s something to be said about a necklace that can help you make a fashion statement even when it is ‘sweater-weather’. Don’t be afraid to mix textures and patterns like we did here by adding the silver staple to an otherwise ‘everyday’ ensemble.
  • Outfit three- One of our favorite attributes regarding this season’s most talked about fashion trends is that designers are absolutely not afraid to call on all hues of the color spectrum to add some smile-inducing styles to their Fall/Winter collections. By pairing our Casablanca Jeweled Necklace with knee-high boots and  a dress in the same color-family as the statement piece’s turquoise stones, the ensemble effortlessly becomes a winter-ready look:)

When it comes down to it, you simply have to trust your instinct when accessorizing with a traditionally season-specific staple item. As we have said before, in the long run, there’s nothing better than investing in jewelry that can be worn year-round. By purchasing pieces which incorporate always-aesthetically appealing textures and hues- like our terrific friend turquoise- your ensemble possibilities will increase exponentially and we promise… your fashion-centered compliments will be positively correlated ;) As it gets colder, have some fun with the champion colors of the 2012 and keep your ears open regarding the next happy hue coming up on the catwalk!
